Debt Limit and the power of Congress

I urge Congress, the House of Representatives specifically, to stand firm in the current negotiations regarding our country's debt ceiling.

I am dismayed to see how everyone just assumes that the president has all the cards in this ongoing debate regarding the debt ceiling.

We (or most of anyway) have all learned, the Constitution divides powers between the different branches of government and how the Congress has the power of the purse. Specifically, it is the Congress that appropriates money and it is the House of Representatives that originates all appropriations bills and it is the Congress that authorizes the borrowing of money.

Congress should not cede any of its powers to the President through some sort of plan to avoid blame (or responsibility). Let me say it plain, McConnel's plan to avoid blame is no more than a plan to avoid responsibility. If Mr McConnell doesn't want the blame, then he should have never run for office!!! The Constitution gives Congress the authority over the purse. They need to excercise that responsibility.

If a child wants $20 in allowance and the parent deems $15 to be appropriate, well guess what, it's $15 that the child gets. It's Congress that's the parent in this case since it's Congress that has authority over the purse.

Let the House pass a debt ceiling increase with whatever conditions it deems appropriate and then LEAVE TOWN!!!
